Some good news for savers.
Changes to last month. Guess what? A relentless downward spiral in rates seems to slowly be coming to an end. In fact, a few banks - Absa, FNB, Nedbank - actually increased rates on some of their fixed deposits. You can now get slightly better rates +/- 0.5% better for these banks. Standard Bank remains very much at the bottom. If you are a Standard Bank customer, you should probably look to another bank or RSA bonds for better fixed deposit rates. Standard Bank fixed deposit rates remain dismal.
How I update the rates? If you just signed up for my monthly update, I source fixed deposit rates from all the banks & send these summary reports to you on a monthly basis. I put a lot of effort into converting all the rates displayed by the banks into effective annual rates. Some banks like to show simple, others nominal and yet others again effective. I take out all those idiosyncrasies and give you one simple report for easy comparison.
